What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Avenue Church are designed with you in mind.  We want to help individuals rethink about what the Church is FOR instead of what we are against.

THE LOST BECOME FOUND.

We believe that people are on a journey towards God. Many times, people fill that God-searching journey with the things of this world. We want them to know the answer truly is finding God. When they do, they have been found.

THE EXCLUDED BECOME INCLUDED.

Unfortunately, many people in our world have been excluded by the church. Jesus never excluded people. All are welcome to His table. Therefore, we want those who have been and feel excluded to be included in the Kingdom of God.

THE PRODIGALS RETURN HOME.

Many individuals have had some kind of church background. Somewhere along the way, they have left the church for a number of reasons. Our hope is that they will return home. The church has missed them tremendously.

THE HOPELESS FIND HOPE.

Many walk around life with nothing to look forward too. In fact, there isn’t much hope. But there is. And we want people to know that there is incredible hope! It can literally change our entire outlook on life. That hope is knowing each person was created by God and for God.

THE WEARY FIND STRENGTH.

When life hits, it has a way of keeping us on our knees. The problem is when nobody is there to help us up. We desire to help these individuals get back up while renewing their strength in themselves.

GOD RECEIVES ALL GLORY FOR EVERYTHING.

It’s natural for us (Christians and the Church) to want to take credit for anything good. However, we could never do the good deed without having Christ having led and leading the way. Therefore, God gets all the glory for all good that takes place in our life and in this world.

EXCELLENCE IN ALL WE DO.

Everything that our church does must always reflect excellence. God did not do and create things without an important purpose. Therefore, we will do all things with excellence as God has done with His universe.

What We Believe

We are a part of a movement called the Church of God out of Anderson, Indiana (Wesleyan/Holiness Movement).  Although we are a movement that has many churches all around the country and world, we are still considered a non-denominational church.

Our staff and members at Avenue come from a variety of backgrounds including: non-church goers, Methodist, Catholic, Non-Denominational, Apostolic, Nazarene, Baptist, Assembly of God, Vineyard, Lutheran, and many other traditions. We welcome anyone regardless of where they have been or where they are in their faith and belief. Listed on the side are some of our core beliefs.

About the Scriptures:

We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture.  Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Proverbs 30:5; Romans 16:25-26)

About God:

We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (The Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world. (1 John 5:7; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6)

About Humanity:

We believe that all people were created in the image of God to have fellowship with him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts. (Acts 2:21, 3:19; 1 John 1:9)

About Salvation:

We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16, 3:8; Titus 3:5; Romans 10:9-10; Acts 16:31; Hebrews 9:22)

About the Christian Life:

We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ. (1 Thessalonians 4:3, 5:23; 2 Corinthians 3:18, 6:14-18, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3; Romans 8:29, 12:1-2)

About the Church:

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished word of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving him and by making him known to the lost world. (Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23; John 17:11, 20-23)
