Deuteronomy 27

Devotional:
‘Cursed is anyone who leads a blind person astray on the road.’ And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’ (Deuteronomy 27:18)

The Levites pronounce twelve curses in this chapter, reflecting the number of the tribes of Israel. These curses flow from the laws that have been set forth in Deuteronomy and the call to worship God alone and love our neighbors. God calls for us to be people of integrity, where our actions match our beliefs. We are called to live this out, regardless of whether or not anyone can see what we are doing. Our integrity should include compassion to each person God intersects us with on our journey. Just as the people said “Amen” to each of these curses, may we affirm God’s commands with our lips and also appear in our actions as people of integrity.
Pray it:
Father, I confess that at times I profess your truth with my lips but don’t reflect it in my actions. Thank you for forgiveness for my failures to follow your commands, and empower to walk more faithfully in your ways and to show love for you and for others in what I say and do. Amen.
