1 Samuel 24
Devotional:
He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this to my lord the king. I shouldn’t attack the Lord’s anointed one, for the Lord himself has chosen him.” (I Samuel 24:6)
When someone has wronged us, payback seems justified. It’s instinctive and a very human reaction. But those who love God trust the justness of who He is to reckon what is right. David trusted the Lord’s plan and His timing. Humble David would not remove the Lord’s chosen leader even when he had opportunity, and even when his squad encouraged him to seize the moment of retaliation. Who’s wronged you? Maybe they’ve taken something that was yours or their words killed your character? Everything in you might want to settle the score (and your tribe might be advising as such), but let God be God. Like David, show grace and walk away because God always gets the last word. He is the Lion of Judah and when it comes to protecting His tribe, He’s fierce and He roars!

Father, I thank you for sparing me, even though I am deserving of judgment, by sending Jesus to take my place. Help me to live like him and love those around me who might oppose me or have wronged me.
