Joshua 17
Devotional:
The descendants of Joseph came to Joshua and asked, “Why have you given us only one portion of land as our homeland when the Lord has blessed us with so many people?” (Joshua 17:14)
Of course, the division of the land among the people was not without its challenges. The people of Joseph were dissatisfied with the amount of land they had been given, and Joshua agreed to give them more…with a catch. The land that was given was forested; it would take work to claim it. There were also Canaanites living there; they would have to fight for it. Jesus came to take away our sins, but that doesn’t mean that a life of following Jesus will always be easy. Faith takes work, and we need to fight lingering sin in our lives. In Christ we are promised a hope and a future. Are you willing to work for it? Are you willing to fight for it?

Pray it:
Father, help me to remember the truth that I did nothing to earn my inheritance through Christ but that I am also called to “work out my salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:2). Enable me, by your Spirit, to discover even more of the transformed life that is mine in and through Christ. Amen.
