Matthew 10
Devotional:
What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. (Matt. 10:29-31).
As Jesus sends the twelve apostles on mission, he warns them that they will face persecution. He assures them, however, that God greatly loves, values and cares for them, and He will never abandon them. Using his familiar “how much more” approach, Jesus argues that if God sovereignly supervises the fate of even the tiny sparrow and cares enough to monitor even the tiny, insignificant aspects of His children’s lives (the number of hairs on our heads!), then most certainly He will be vigilantly and intimately involved in the weighty aspects of our lives. This includes (perhaps especially) the trials we may have to suffer for His Name’s sake. We can have similar confidence as he also sends us out on mission to share the good news of Jesus’s work in our world.

Pray it:
Father, help me remember how much you love me and not to fret or worry in the face of whatever challenges I might experience in serving you. I praise you for watching over every tiny detail in life; help me to trust you and your perfect plan today. Amen.
