Genesis 13

Devotional:
The whole countryside is open to you. Take your choice of any section of the land you want, and we will separate. If you want the land to the left, then I’ll take the land on the right. If you prefer the land on the right, then I’ll go to the left.” (Genesis 13:9 NLT)

Abram could have had the land of his choice. Knowing that God wanted to bless him, he could have seized this opportunity to take the land he wanted. There are times when God calls us to assertively seize an opportunity, and there are times when God wants us to wait. We must submit all things to God and assess the situation. Abram put Lot before his own desires and let Lot choose first. Do you assess situations and understand how your choices will affect others? When have you felt God’s blessing to “go for it” and when have you felt God telling you to wait?
Pray it:
Father, help me to be like Jesus and not think about my own interests but the interests of others. Help me not to put myself first but to put you first and to serve others, pointing them to your grace and wonderful promises in Jesus. Amen.
