Genesis 25

Devotional:
And the Lord told her, “The sons in your womb will become two nations. From the very beginning, the two nations will be rivals. One nation will be stronger than the other; and your older son will serve your younger son.” (Genesis 25:23 NLT)

Here God teaches us He will choose whomever He desires for His purposes (a point Paul makes in referring to this passage in Romans 9). Esau was the firstborn, the hunter, and apparently the stronger of the two, but it was Jacob whom God chose to carry on God’s covenant. God takes the weak to shame the strong (1 Corinthians 1:26). Why? So that “no one may boast before him” (1 Corinthians 1:29). Jacob did not deserve the birthright, as he used deception to steal it. Yet, God’s grace was upon him. We don’t deserve our birthright in Christ Jesus, yet, God’s grace is upon us! We are made strong through His Spirit as we acknowledge Jesus as the Lord of our life. Have you turned your weaknesses over to the Lord?
Pray it:
Father, remind me today that everything I have comes from you and that I do not deserve your favor or mercy. Help me not be afraid of weakness but to recognize that you show your strength and mercy when I am at my weakest. Amen.
