Deuteronomy 1
Devotional:
The Lord your God is going ahead of you. He will fight for you, just as you saw him do in Egypt. And you saw how the Lord your God cared for you all along the way as you traveled through the wilderness, just as a father cares for his child. Now he has brought you to this place.’ (Deuteronomy 1:30-31).
Welcome to the Book of Deuteronomy! As we read through this book, it’s important to understand the backdrop. Moses isn’t going to go into the Promised Land, so he gathers Israel to impart to them the things God’s people need to know before he is no longer their leader.
From Chapter 1, we see that God is not only the defender and protector of our faith, but He is on the offense! Even in the most desperate and desolate of days, He is there fighting ahead of us. Reflect on those times in the past when the LORD was relentless in seeing you to the end of the day. Know He will continue to be faithful in fighting for you!

Pray it:
Father, I confess how often I am like the Israelites and forget the various ways I have seen your hand at work in my life. Help me to remember Jesus’s death and resurrection so that I may be able to walk forward in confidence even when I face unknown and frightening situations. Amen.
