Luke 14
Devotional:
And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:27)
Following Jesus is not easy; he never promised it would be. In order to follow Jesus, we have to suffer with him and become more like him. He made this statement before he went to the cross, but he knew ahead of time the price of our sins. It’s our sin that separates us from God and the cross of Christ that bridges that gap. We all have a burden to bear in following Jesus, but thankfully he took the punishment that we deserved so that we could be made right with God. Whatever burden you carry, whatever cross you’ve been called to bear, remember that the cost of following Jesus is far outweighed by the price that was paid to set us free. Jesus paid it all, all to him we owe.

Pray it:
Jesus, thank you for carrying the cross, dying for my sins and rising again to give me new life. Strengthen me to follow you, no matter what the cost I might endure on earth, knowing that what you have brought is greater than anything I could ever find in this world. Amen.
