Acts 1

Devotional:
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

Jesus spent the 40 days following His resurrection preparing the apostles for the coming of the Holy Spirit. He instructed them not to leave Jerusalem and reminded them of God’s promise of the Holy Spirit. When the disciples asked about the restoration of Israel, Jesus directed them to instead focus on the power they will receive in the Holy Spirit to be witnesses of Jesus and spread the gospel. While they had to wait for the Spirit to come upon them, we receive this Spirit when we believe in Christ and He also empowers us to be witnesses of Jesus. Where is our focus today? Is it on things of this world or things from above? Are we being effective disciples and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus wherever we are?
Pray it:
Father, thank you for keeping your promises and in particular for the fulfillment of the promise of the Holy Spirit being poured out on your people. Help me to remember His presence and to be led by His power to testify to others. Amen.
