Acts 3

Devotional:
But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. (Acts 3:6-7)

When Peter and John encounter a beggar asking for alms (gifts of money or goods to the poor), Peter gives him something more valuable – the ability to walk! This Peter, who boldly proclaims the name of Jesus here, is the same man who denied Jesus three times after being questioned about his knowing Jesus (Matthew 26:69-75). This is the ‘new creation’ Peter, empowered by the Holy Spirit, unashamedly glorifying the Lord in preaching. We, too, are new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). How do we reflect this salvation and become light in this world? How differently do we act at home or at work now that our old selves are dead? Are we ready to preach the gospel boldly and testify? We no longer need to be afraid!
Pray it:
Jesus, I thank you that you were not just at work in the time of the apostles but that you continue to work in the lives of your people today. Use me and the transformation you have worked in me to help others know your power and love. Amen.
