Acts 12
Devotional:
Meanwhile, the word of God continued to spread, and there were many new believers. (Acts 12:24)
Do not overlook or underestimate the intention of this one sentence in Acts, as it is an emphatic proclamation that God is in control even as the disciples face persecutions, martyrdoms, imprisonments and having to flee. Here we see King Herod Agrippa, the grandson of Herod the Great, targeting the apostles. His first attack would be the beheading of James, son of Zebedee and brother of John. Peter would be the next as he was arrested and sent to be executed, only to be freed from prison by an angel and arriving at the house of Mary. Let us remember that nothing can stop God’s Word and that we must trust in God’s power to grow His church through the preaching of the Word no matter what situations we face in this world.

Father, I thank you for your powerful Word that grows the church in the face of whatever obstacles Satan may seek to put in its way. Help me to share the Word with others to see how you change their lives and to let your Word take root in my heart so that I may see your power at work in me. Amen.
