Acts 16
Devotional:
The jailer called for lights, rushed in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. He escorted them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” (Acts 16:29-31)
While imprisoned in the city of Philippi, Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns. When an earthquake shook the prison and caused the doors of the cells to open, they did not leave but rather stayed and were able to explain the truth of the gospel to the fearful jailer. After undoubtedly hearing them sing, pray and proclaim the gospel the whole time they were there, the jailer wanted to know how to be saved, which led to the baptism of him and his whole household. While suffering, the actions of Paul and Silas were enough to save a whole household by their witness. How can we witness to others through our worship, especially when suffering?

Pray it:
Father, rather than fear suffering, help me understand that it might be a way that I testify to those around me of the truth of the gospel and the difference it might make. Give me the strength to have joy even in these hardships and the words to proclaim your truth clearly when asked. Amen.
