Acts 20
Devotional:
I know that false teachers, like vicious wolves, will come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock. Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following. (Acts 20:29-30)
Paul headed to Jerusalem, he offered something of a “farewell” address to the elders of the church in Ephesus. In it, he specifically warned them about false teachers that would harm the “flock” that Jesus Himself redeemed with His own blood. These “wolves” would arise from their ranks! We see this prophecy coming true when Paul writes to Timothy when he led the church at Ephesus almost 10 years later (1 Timothy 1:19-20, 2 Timothy 1:15). There is no shortage today of false teachers, twisting the truth of the gospel to better themselves – whether it be prosperity, claims of hearing new revelations from God, accusations of the insufficiency of the Bible, or modifying Scripture to push political or social agendas at the expense of God’s holy Word. Can we identify these false teachings? Are we praying for our church leaders to be protected?

Pray it:
Father, protect me and protect your church from the false teachers that continually arise that seek to deceive your people. Give my leaders the wisdom and courage to confront these false teachers and help my leaders to faithfully proclaim your truth to our church family. Amen.
