Acts 21
Devotional:
But he said, “Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart! I am ready not only to be jailed at Jerusalem but even to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 21:13)
As Paul travelled to Jerusaelm, fellow believers in Christ urged him not to go there “through the Spirit” because he was likely to suffer there. A prophet named Agabus told Paul that he would be captured by the Jews in Jerusalem and turned over to the Gentiles, which led the believers in Caesarea to similarly urge Paul not to go. Through the Spirit and by prophecy, these groups interpreted these messages as warnings not to proceed to Jerusalem. Paul was unfazed by the warnings of fellow disciples and a prophet. He was ready to be jailed and even die for Jesus (Philippians 1:21)! Do we value the gospel of Jesus Christ and his actions on the cross to redeem us? What do we value more than our Savior (Matthew 10:37)? Are we ready to die for the name of Jesus?

Pray it:
Father, help me to remember how the truth of the gospel is even more precious than my very own life, so that I can suffer for your name if that is what is needed for your gospel to be proclaimed in this world, for more people to embrace the precious truth of the gospel and the hope of the resurrection. Amen.
