Exodus 14
Devotional:
and they said to Moses, “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt? Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’” (Exodus 14:11-12).
Oh, how finicky our faith can be! The Israelites have watched God do amazing things to free them and have experienced Him guide them through miraculous ways. At every step God has been faithful, yet when they see the Egyptians approaching, their faith runs away from them. Their minds go to the worst places…they are even expecting to die in the desert. And again, God is faithful. He does what only He can do in order to ensure their freedom and His promises to them.
Are you facing something scary right now, and if you’re honest, your faith has run from you? Is there a pattern in your life where your faith is strong as long as everything is going well? Remember that God still provides for His people and is always faithful to every promise. Pray and give thanks for where God has been faithful or pray and ask that He would bring your faith back to you.

Pray it:
Father, forgive me for the times that I doubt your faithfulness or focus more on my circumstances and challenges than on your promises and power to fulfill your plan. Remind me of your gracious and powerful workings in your people and in my life in the past so that I can be filled with thanks and praise rather than doubts and despair. Amen.
