Leviticus 10

Devotional:
Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord meant when he said,
‘I will display my holiness
through those who come near me.
I will display my glory
    before all the people.’”
And Aaron was silent. (Leviticus 10:3)

Aaron’s sons lit the censers and offered unauthorized fire before the Lord. In doing so, they approached the Lord in a way that was different from God’s commands and expectations. Their actions resulted in the Lord consuming them with the fire. Was this a harsh punishment? Maybe. But it certainly was a just punishment from a just God. God’s actions instilled the fear of the Lord in Aaron and the Israelites, as they knew that God was not one to mess with. There was an obvious reduction in doubt and growth in fear and faith in the Lord. Do you think we may have lost the fear of our Lord as Israel did? What would serve as a lasting reminder for you when it comes to fearing and trusting in our Lord?
Pray it:
Father, let me never forget or take for granted the fact that not only are you a gracious God, but you are also a holy God. Help me to remember both your grace and holiness, seeking to follow you faithfully while recognizing the grace and mercy you show us through faith in Christ. Amen.
