Proverbs 5
Devotional:
Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer—(Proverbs 5:15, 18 & 19a).
This is a warning from Solomon to his sons about the virtues and plan for Christian marriages. It’s also a warning to all Christians (both male and female) against the evils and trappings of adultery. The point is made that God has provided a place for a man to satisfy his sexual needs — in marriage, with the wife of his youth. It is easy to think that real sexual satisfaction can be found outside of marriage, but this is an illusion and a deception of our society. God’s best for humanity is for a man to marry a wife and for him to rejoice with her for the rest of his days. When tempted to move to other situations to be satisfied, it’s best to remember that God has the best plan for our lives.

Lord, there are constant temptations to fulfill my sexual desires outside of marriage. Help me and those around me, whether married or not, to stay firm in your truth and uphold the sacredness of the marriage covenant. Turn my eyes and heart away from anything that tries to pull me away from that reality. Amen.
