Proverbs 14
Devotional:
There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. (Proverbs 14:12).
As we have seen, Proverbs often talks about the way – meaning the pathway – of life that we walk. Solomon tells us that although this way often seems right to us, we may wonder why God or anyone else would not think the same way or perhaps have a different opinion. Though this pathway may seem right to us, sometimes it isn’t and proceeding down this pathway will lead to death. This proverb makes clear to us our need for revelation from God. We can not trust entirely on our own examination and judgment. To really know we are on the pathway of life, we need to fear the Lord and rely on His wisdom, especially as revealed in the Word. Let us continually examine our lives against God’s wisdom and pray against self-deception or self-justification so that we can walk in God’s truth.

Pray it:
God, I know I am an imperfect, sinful human who often thinks my way is above yours. Help me to remember the ways in which you work beyond my comprehension and to put my full faith and trust in your guidance even when I don’t fully understand. Amen.
