Proverbs 21

Devotional:
People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart. (Proverbs 21:2).

Our human nature is to justify our words and actions. Sometimes we do this correctly in honest, godly sincerity. But other times, we justify with deception and stubborn pride, which makes us think we are right in our own eyes and everyone else’s, too. While we may be confident in our own way, God knows the truth. We justify things in our own hearts by saying “I must follow my heart,” but God weighs the heart knowing that the heart itself really doesn’t justify anything. May we come to value God’s weighing of our hearts more than our own perspective of our life and actions.
Pray it:
God, my way often seems best, but help me reach beyond myself and surrender to your will and your way. Help me consider my steps and decisions by coming to you first and putting myself aside. May your way prevail in this world and in my heart. Amen.
