Numbers 18

Devotional:
And the Lord said to Aaron, “You priests will receive no allotment of land or share of property among the people of Israel. I am your share and your allotment. (Numbers 18:20)

As the Israelites prepared to go into the Promised Land, God says that the Levites were not to receive an inheritance like the other tribes. How were they then to survive? Chapter 18 shows that many of the offerings and sacrifices brought before the Lord were to be used to provide for the Levites; it was compensation that helped provide for care for the spiritual needs of the people of Israel. It also speaks about how the Levites were to give God a portion of the people’s tithe (see vs. 25-32). These passages make clear the fact that God’s people have a responsibility to provide for those who serve the Lord faithfully as leaders, and at the same time, that those who are cared for this way remain faithful and give back to God as well.
Pray it:
Father, thank you for those you have appointed to care for and serve your people. May you provide for them through your people so that they can serve you without worry or fear about their daily circumstances. Amen.
