Numbers 31

Devotional:
Then all the generals and captains came to Moses and said, “We, your servants, have accounted for all the men who went out to battle under our command; not one of us is missing! (Numbers 31:48-49)

God commanded this attack on the people of Midian because they led the Israelites away from God back in Numbers 25; this was God’s judgment upon the Midianites. Upon returning from war with Midian, they realized that every soldier that had gone off to battle had returned. God did not spare one Midianite man, boy, or adult woman, but every single soldier from Israel was back safe and sound! God was with them, protecting them in the midst of a dangerous – and potentially deadly – battle. Their response was of gratitude, offering to God all the gold from the plunder. Know that God is with us and protects us; He will never abandon us or forsake us. May we offer gratitude for the way God cares for us, and may we seek to stay faithful to Him as He continues to care and provide for us.
Pray it:
Father, thank you for guarding and protecting your people. Help me to trust in your protection and to offer thanks and praise to you for when you deliver and defend me. Amen.
