Matthew 4
Devotional:
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. (Matt. 4:1).
Jesus now faces one of the greatest challenges in his earthly life: the 40-day wilderness ordeal of fasting and temptation. How did he pass the test? With his deep-rooted, unwavering reliance upon the solid bedrock that is Scripture. Three times the devil tempts Jesus, tantalizing him first with the prospect of physical sustenance, then public acclaim, and finally world domination. And each time our Lord successfully battles back, quoting verses from Deuteronomy. When you are lured by the world, the flesh, or the devil, rely on the scriptural weapons stockpiled in your armory: “I have treasured your word in my heart, so that I may not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11).

Pray it:
Jesus, I praise you for resisting temptation and doing what no other human had done. Strengthen me, through your Word, that I may resist Satan’s ploys to draw me away from the wonderful path of life you have revealed in your Word. Amen.
