Genesis 45

Devotional:
So Joseph sent his brothers off, and as they left, he called after them, “Don’t quarrel about all this along the way!” (Genesis 45:24 NLT)

Up to this point, Jacob believed that Joseph had been killed by an animal. A little explaining was going to have to take place. You can imagine the brothers’ discussions all the way home about how to tell Jacob the upsetting details of what really happened to his beloved son. Joseph told them not to quarrel because it did not matter. Even Jacob fought his sons a bit because he could not believe Joseph was still alive. God had used the previous events to save their lives and now they must focus on their bright future. Do you have unnecessary quarrels by bringing up the past? Rather than argue, can you see how God worked in some of the trials to lead you to where you are today? Perhaps we can heed Joseph’s advice and not quarrel on the way, but look at God’s divine plan.
Pray it:
Father, when I am tempted to dwell or focus upon the past, help me to see your abundant grace that is available today and how you work even through my sin and errors. Rather than focus on my imperfect actions, help me to focus upon your perfect plan. Amen.
