Genesis 42
Devotional:
Although Joseph recognized his brothers, they didn’t recognize him. And he remembered the dreams he’d had about them many years before. (Genesis 42:8-9a NLT)
Thirteen years later, the tables have turned; Joseph’s dreams came to fruition! The brothers who sold him into slavery are now at his mercy to provide food to keep them alive. Joseph spoke harshly to them and did not reveal his identity to ensure that they were remorseful. Though Joseph longed to lavish them with food, forgiveness, and love, his harshness served a purpose. This is not unlike how God deals with us. God leads us to repentance and follows through on His promises! At times, it may be difficult to praise God for how He is working in our lives, but we know that it is all for His kingdom.

Pray it:
Father, thank you for loving me enough that you will discipline me at times to help me learn repentance and obedience. Help me to embrace the lessons learned in this time so that I may both know you more and also make you known to others. Amen.
