Genesis 26
Devotional:
I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed. I will do this because Abraham listened to me and obeyed all my requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions.” (Genesis 26:4-5 NLT)
Generational blessings and generational sins are revealed today. Isaac was reaping the blessing of having a godly obedient father, Abraham. We also see him repeat the sin of deception when he called his wife his sister out of fear, just as his father had done. We can use today’s chapter as a tool to think about our own lives. God’s grace and salvation is offered to every one of us, regardless of our ancestry, because of Jesus. God uses our past (both good and bad) to shape us into godly men and women. What blessings do you see passed down from your parents that you can thank God for? What sin are you aware of that you can ask God to help you not fall into the same pattern? If you are a parent, ask yourself what you want passed down to your children and pursue that goal.

Pray it:
Father, help me break the cycle and patterns of sin that are in my life and to set new patterns of holy living, both for my sake and for the sake of those around me. Help me set an example to be followed by others and pass along virtues to the next generations. Amen.
