Genesis 32
Devotional:
“Your name will no longer be Jacob,” the man told him. “From now on you will be called Israel, because you have fought with God and with men and have won.” (Genesis 32:28 NLT)
The re-naming of Jacob here is similar to when Abraham’s name was changed from Abram. God is consistent in His plan and purpose as it developed through Abraham’s family tree. We, too, are given a new identity when we are touched by God and receive Christ as Lord of our life. God does not want us to walk in shame of our past or allow our circumstances to dictate our identity. In Christ, you have overcome and the victory is yours. There may be times of trials and challenges, but God is always present. You are a child of God, dearly loved by your Father. Do you walk in knowledge of your identity in Christ?

Pray it:
Father, help me remember that through Christ, I have become a child of God and that you call me by name. May this identity as a child of God transcend any other marker in my life and speak louder to me than the guilt or shame that stem from my transgressions and sins. Amen.
