Psalms 31

Devotional:
In panic I cried out,
“I am cut off from the Lord!”
But you heard my cry for mercy
and answered my call for help. (Psalm 31:22).

In the middle of a difficult situation, it is easy to forget that nothing surprises God and He has everything under control. When we focus on a problem and forget that the Lord is sovereign in every situation, we have a tendency to react with haste and alarm, which can lead to more problems. Yet, God does not cut us off in the midst of trouble. David, who wrote this Psalm, experienced this as he walked with God. He writes, “For you [God] are my rock and my fortress; you lead me and guide me for your name’s sake. You will free me from the net that is secretly set for me, for you are my refuge” (verses 3-4). So it is that David commits himself and his way to the Lord: “Into your hand I entrust my spirit” (verse 5). May we do the same!
Pray it:
Father, I entrust all of my life into your hands, knowing that you are in control and are good. Be my rock and refuge and lead me for the sake of your name and glory. Amen.
