Genesis 28

Devotional:
Then Jacob made this vow: “If God will indeed be with me and protect me on this journey, and if he will provide me with food and clothing, and if I return safely to my father’s home, then the Lord will certainly be my God. (Genesis 28:20-21 NLT)

The promise God made to Abraham continues to be passed down from generation to generation. In Jacob’s dream, God promised him guidance and blessings. Jacob’s response was a three-fold surrender: himself, his home, and his belongings. First, Jacob acknowledges the Lord as his God, accepting God’s promises and gladly receiving Him into his life. Second, he surrenders his home to God and makes it God’s house. Lastly, Jacob demonstrates his commitment to God by giving back a tenth of what he received from God. What about you? Have you accepted the promise of salvation and received Jesus into your life? Have you surrendered your place to the Lord? Does Jesus reign in your home? Do you give back to the Lord a portion of the blessings He provides for you?
Pray it:
Jesus, all that I have has come from you and I dedicate everything I have to you and to your purposes. Reveal to me anything I may be holding back from you and help me use the gifts you have placed in my life to make your name known in this world. Amen.
