Exodus 4
Devotional:
But Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” (Exodus 4:10).
Very similar to what we saw in chapter 3, Moses sees God do amazing things in changing his staff into a serpent (and then back again) and turning his hand leprous (and making it healthy again). Yet, in verse 10, Moses makes excuses of why he shouldn’t follow God’s call.
Later on there are some verses that can be confusing. What is happening in verses 24-26 when Zipporah circumcised his son? Just as God fulfills His portion of the covenant with His people, so His people are called to fulfill their portion. Even though circumcision was a sign to God’s people that they belonged to God, Moses hadn’t had his son circumcised. God was going to kill Moses for disobeying, but Zipporah’s actions saved his life.
Are you still trying to make excuses to avoid your calling? How are you doing at living into the expectations Jesus has for his followers? How can others come alongside you and help you in that effort?

Pray it:
Pray in whatever way is fitting for you today: a confession, a cry for help, or a plea for others to join you in your journey.
