Exodus 5

Devotional:
Then Moses went back to the Lord and protested, “Why have you brought all this trouble on your own people, Lord? Why did you send me? Ever since I came to Pharaoh as your spokesman, he has been even more brutal to your people. And you have done nothing to rescue them!” (Exodus 5:22-23).

The showdown between God and Pharaoh begins. Moses and Aaron bring God’s message to Pharaoh, and he responds by treating the Israelites even worse. They are now forced to gather their own straw for making bricks while their quota on output doesn’t drop. Beatings begin for not meeting the quotas.

Sometimes things get worse before they get better. That’s not how we want it to be; if it were up to us, things would just always get better and better. But no matter our circumstances, God is still in control and He is the one we need to cry out to in our time of need just as the Israelites do at the end of this chapter. What do you need to cry out to God for today?
Pray it:
Father, I often think I can do things on my own and with my own strength. Thank you for the moments you humble me and make me recognize both my dependence on and need for you. Specially, this day I need your help for ___________________. Help me to not just call out for your help but receive it as you give it. Amen.
