Exodus 18

Devotional:
“This is not good!” Moses’ father-in-law exclaimed. “You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself. (Exodus 18:17-18).

Ahhh…the wisdom of elders. The need to possibly do too much and find a good balance in our lives is addressed in Jethro’s direction given to his son-in-law, Moses.

Are you trying to do too much on your own? Who can you delegate some tasks to? Do you have difficulty letting go? Are you a control freak? Ask God to help you let some things go so others can develop their gifts.

Who speaks into your life to tell you it isn’t in balance? We often cannot see it in ourselves and may need an outside perspective. If you don’t have someone, who could you ask to mentor you in that way?
Pray it:
Father, you can handle it all and do everything…I can’t. Help me to not feel bad about my shortcomings but rather repent of the thought that I need to do all things. Show me, through your Spirit or the advice of others, if there are things in my life I need to give up or give over to others to live better into my human limitations, the gift of community, and trust in you. Amen.
