Exodus 21
Devotional:
“Suppose someone digs or uncovers a pit and fails to cover it, and then an ox or a donkey falls into it. The owner of the pit must pay full compensation to the owner of the animal, but then he gets to keep the dead animal. (Exodus 21:33-34).
While it may seem that many of the specific examples cited in these laws aren’t applicable to us, think about how good God is to provide guidelines for living. He doesn’t force us to figure out the things we should and shouldn’t do. Part of the grace He pours out for us is His guidelines for living and how the Holy Spirit will help guide in that process.
Take time today to give thanks that God is a God of order allowing us the freedom to live within His boundaries.

Pray it:
Father, just as you were specific in the instructions you gave to the Israelites in how they should love you and others, help me to be specific rather than vague in the way I love you and others, showing both elements in concrete actions and words. Direct me and empower me to live a life reflecting your desires and your person. Amen.
