Leviticus 5

Devotional:
You must make restitution for the sacred property you have harmed by paying for the loss, plus an additional 20 percent. When you give the payment to the priest, he will purify you with the ram sacrificed as a guilt offering, making you right with the Lord, and you will be forgiven. (Leviticus 5:16)

The Israelites had to follow the sacrifice guidelines to make restitution for the damages caused to others and/or against the Lord. These guidelines included an additional ask of a “fifth of its value.” Thus, one not only had to pay for the damage done but above and beyond that. While we do not have to offer sacrifices today, we should recognize that we may need to go beyond acknowledging our wrongs to others or paying them back just for the damages we have caused to express remorse for our actions and our desire to seek their good. Does any situation come to mind in which you may need to not only seek restitution but go even beyond that?
Pray it:
Father, thank you for your abundant grace that gives me so much more than I deserve. Show me if there are people I have wronged that I need not just pay back but seek to bless in an even greater way. Amen.
