Acts 2
Devotional:
Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:37-38)
With the arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, Peter delivered a powerful sermon at what could be considered the first church revival in history. The people were so moved by the gospel message they asked what they should do. The answer then is the same as it is today – repent. The act of repentance is to turn away from sin and change our minds regarding it. But it is more than that, it is also a change of heart as we possess a hatred for sin, realizing its consequences and seeking the Lord’s help in protecting us from it (Matthew 6:13). The Apostle Paul described the difference between true repentance and worldly grief in 2 Corinthians 7:10, “For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, but worldly grief produces death.” Do we have a godly sorrow towards our sin and truly desire to turn our lives away from it?

Pray it:
Father, I confess that I have sinned against you, choosing to go my own way rather than to follow in your ways. Increase my love of you and help me turn away from sin more and more in my life. Amen.
