Acts 8
Devotional:
The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, was the prophet talking about himself or someone else?” So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus. (Acts 8:34-35)
Philip was among the seven (with Stephen) appointed to serve the church. By the direction of the Holy Spirit, he was sent to meet an Ethiopian eunuch just south of Jerusalem. Philip heard this man reading scripture from Isaiah foretelling the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Isaiah 53:7,8). The book of Isaiah, specifically chapter 53, contains some of the most widely-known verses in the Bible regarding the messianic prophecies. Jesus Christ was foretold almost 700 years before his birth! The Bible is one book, not two, and the Old Testament reveals the redemptive story of Jesus in conjunction with the New Testament. Take time to read Isaiah chapter 53 today, and when asked to give an answer as Philip was, you, too, can begin with this Scripture and boldly preach the gospel.

Pray it:
Father, thank you for your word and the way each and every part of it points me to Jesus and what he has done for me. Help me to cherish your work and to understand it so that I may be able to explain it to others as well. Amen.
