Acts 17
Devotional:
“He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. (Acts 17: 24-25)
When Paul was in Athens, he saw the people worshipping many different idols and even saw an altar to the “unknown god.” Paul used this altar to show that the unknown god they perceived was the one and only true God and the only one deserving of worship. He is the one who created all things and cannot be contained in a statue or precious metal. Because God made all people from Adam, He calls for all to worship Him and will judge all people. The only way to escape this judgment would be through the one man God appointed, Jesus Christ. Anything that we put before God is an idol. Whether it be work, family, money or ourselves, this is idolatry and against the command of God, our Creator. What idols have we erected in our lives, and when are we going to destroy them?

Pray it:
Father, I confess that I, too, have been an idolator, putting things ahead of you in my life and thinking too little of you. Thank you for pouring out the judgment that I deserve on Jesus to save me from my sins and help me to worship you alone each day. Amen.
