Acts 18
Devotional:
One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision and told him, “Don’t be afraid! Speak out! Don’t be silent! For I am with you, and no one will attack and harm you, for many people in this city belong to me.” (Acts 18:9-10)
Paul left Athens and arrived in the city of Corinth. It was a large trade city and infamously known for its immorality, sexual deviancy and religious cults. Corinth’s chief shrine was the temple of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and life, and members of it would practice a variety of cult prostitution rituals and sacrifices. It, thus, seemed like a city in which people were unlikely to turn to God. In fact, even the Jews of the city resisted the message that Paul preached. Yet the Lord told Him to keep preaching and not be afraid because He had “many people” in that city that He would call. That vision propelled Paul to keep preaching there for a year and a half. Let us similarly continue to share His word, confident that God is working to call people – all nations, tribes and tongues.

Pray it:
Father, thank you for the Christians of past ages who endured through discouragement and suffering to continue to preach your Word. Help me to walk in their footsteps, clinging to the same promises in your Word that they did. Amen.
