Exodus 9

Devotional:
Then Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron. “This time I have sinned,” he confessed. “The Lord is the righteous one, and my people and I are wrong. Please beg the Lord to end this terrifying thunder and hail. We’ve had enough. I will let you go; you don’t need to stay any longer.” (Exodus 9:27-28).

We have seen in today’s chapter and previous chapters how Pharoah promised to let the Israelites go, only to change his mind once the plagues had ended. It’s easy to be judgmental at Pharoah, but how many of us have made “fox hole prayers” — asking God to get us out of a jam, making promises that we would never again _______, only to go back to it once we were out of our jam?

Pray today and ask God for forgiveness for the promises you’ve made to Him and have failed to keep. Thank Him for keeping His promises to us no matter what we do to Him.
Pray it:
Father, thank you for keeping your promise – especially your promise of forgiveness – even when I fail to keep the promises I make to you and to others. May your promise-keeping nature cause me to become more faithful in keeping the promises I make and more wise as I contemplate making promises to others, including you. Amen.
