2 Samuel 15

Devotional:
But Ittai said to the king, “I vow by the Lord and by your own life that I will go wherever my lord the king goes, no matter what happens—whether it means life or death.” (2 Samuel 15:21)

The toxicity of this royal family never seems to end, and although it’s shocking, it’s no surprise. God already alerted us to this family’s’ fate (11:10-12). In the unfolding of this next drama, David is forced to exile himself from his home and people, but his trust in the Lord remains unshakeable. In seasons of confusion that beget a crumbling life, one of the greatest blessings is loyalty in friendship. Enter Ittai and Hushai. God often uses people to bring about His will and remind us that He is still with us and for us. Who are the Ittai and Hushai in your life? How is your loyalty? Are you loyal to the King when the world is on a rampage to revolt against Him?
Pray it:
Father, thank you for the people who you have placed around me to help me in the midst of the challenges that I face in this fallen world. Help me to resist the temptation to rely only on myself but rather upon your strength that you provide in and through others. Amen.
