Exodus 32

Devotional:
How quickly they have turned away from the way I commanded them to live! They have melted down gold and made a calf, and they have bowed down and sacrificed to it. They are saying, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.’” (Exodus 32:8)

Again, the impatience of God’s people is on display. Moses doesn’t return quickly enough for them from his mountain-top meeting with God and they start to freak out. Instead of being patient and waiting for their faithful God, they take matters into their own hands and go against Him in making the golden calf. While their sin has ramifications and the plague comes, God is still gracious in not destroying them.

When have you been impatient with God and taken matters into your own hands? How has God shown you grace in those times? Confess your impatience to Him and receive His forgiveness and grace.
Pray it:
Father, thank you for your patience and your mercy towards me, especially when it comes to my impatience towards you. When I find myself waiting, help me to draw closer to you rather than follow the impulses to take matters into my own hands or trust in other people or things instead of you. Amen.
