Numbers 11

Devotional:
Moses heard all the families standing in the doorways of their tents whining, and the Lord became extremely angry. Moses was also very aggravated. (Numbers 11:10).

There is a lot of grumbling in this chapter as the people complained that they were tired of eating only manna and had a craving for meat (vs.4). Even Moses starts to complain since he has to deal with these complaints from the people (vs. 11-14). God helps Moses by giving him elders to help oversee the people (vs. 15-17, 21-25) and also answers the people’s cry by giving them an overabundance of meat for a season (vs. 18-23, 31-34). Complaining against God brings about His anger (vs. 1-3, 33-35). It is easy to judge the Israelites here for forgetting God’s faithfulness, but we, too, often forget the ways God cares for us. Thank God today for the ways He cares for you, and ask His forgiveness for the times you’ve allowed yourself to complain.
Pray it:
Father, I confess that I often complain rather than thank you and praise you for your abundant goodness to me that I do not deserve. Help me both to remember your mighty care for me and to praise your name. Amen.
