Leviticus 17

Devotional:
for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible. That is why I have said to the people of Israel, ‘You must never eat or drink blood—neither you nor the foreigners living among you.’ (Leviticus 17:11-12)

The blood of any animal was integral to the sacrificial system. Amid the death, there was a sprinkling or wiping of the blood upon an altar or person as a means of atonement and cleansing; this alone is the purpose God ordained it for. Blood represents life; no creature can live without blood running through its veins. Again, we see completion of the sacrificial system through Christ. Jesus bled upon a cross as he bore our sins. His blood was our final and complete atonement. May we remember and believe in the forgiveness we have received from the shedding of Jesus Christ’s blood!
Pray it:
Jesus, thank you for shedding your blood for me, that I might be forgiven of my sin. Help me to remember that I am forgiven at such a great cost and to cherish this wonderful and costly gift. Amen.
