Numbers 14

Devotional:
And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will these people treat me with contempt? Will they never believe me, even after all the miraculous signs I have done among them? (Numbers 14:11)

Upon hearing the report from the spies, the people say they would rather be back in Egypt and die there. Their lack of trust in God’s greatness and goodness upset Moses, Aaron, Joshua, Caleb, and God Himself. Because of their lack of faith, the people will not go into the land, and the spies themselves will die by disease. Moses prays for the people, and we see God’s grace and faithfulness in that He will bring the descendants of the people to the land and will reward Joshua and Caleb for their faithfulness (vs. 24, 30). Lack of faith in God’s plan can sometimes result in missing out on the best things He has planned for you. May God’s faithfulness and grace shown here lead us to trust in His plan, knowing that He is good to us and able to do what He says.
Pray it:
Father, help me to trust in your perfect plan, knowing that you are both good to me and greater than the obstacles before me. Give me a contagious and compassionate trust in you, helping others to see it for themselves in the midst of their own struggles. Amen.
