Numbers 32
Devotional:
But if you fail to keep your word, then you will have sinned against the Lord, and you may be sure that your sin will find you out. (Numbers 32:23).
The tribes of Reuben and Gad notice that the land they are in would be good for livestock, so they ask if they can settle there instead of in the Promised Land. This leads to a fiery rebuke from Moses, who compares them to their fathers who failed to follow the Lord’s command about entering Canaan and thus wandered in the wilderness. After hearing this, a deal is struck that the warriors will continue with the rest of Israel in claiming the Promised Land, and that once the task is accomplished, they may return to this land. Moses warns them of the danger of breaking their word, noting that their failure to do so will be sinning against God and that God will find out. This is a good reminder of our need to be faithful to our word and that we cannot escape our sin.

Pray it:
Father, help me to be like these tribes that kept their word and also fought and helped their brothers and sisters. May you continually help me not just to look out for my own interests but for the interests of others. Amen,
