Numbers 1
Devotional:
“From the whole community of Israel, record the names of all the warriors by their clans and families. (Numbers 1:2).
Every 10 years, the United States conducts a census. Here, in the opening chapter of Numbers, we see a census commanded by God that had a couple of reasons. One was to get a count of how many soldiers were available as they prepared to enter the Promised Land (this is why only males ages 20 and older were counted). An even more important reason was to show God’s faithfulness in increasing the offspring of Jacob. They had entered Egypt with 70 people (Genesis 46:26-27), and now there were over 600,000 men over the age of 20! God shows them that He has made them a great nation and now will bring them into the land He had promised to Abraham — so they could be a blessing to all the world. Stop today, pause for a moment, and count the ways He has blessed you.

Pray it:
Father, I confess it is easy to forget all the blessings you have placed in my life and all the ways you have been faithful to me. Help me to stop and count my blessings, knowing that I will never be able to name them all because you are so good to me! Amen.
