Numbers 3

Devotional:
“Call forward the tribe of Levi, and present them to Aaron the priest to serve as his assistants. (Numbers 3:6).

The Levites were not counted in chapter 1 or given a campsite in chapter 2 because God selected the tribe of Levi to serve Him: Aaron and his sons serving, and the priests (vs. 3, 10) and the rest of the tribe of Levi assisting the priests in ministering at the tabernacle (vs. 7-10), with specific families having certain duties (vs. 14-39). The reference to Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu (vs. 3-4), who were killed because they made an offering their way instead of God’s way (see Leviticus 10), reminded them and us to serve God’s purposes according to His ways. What is God calling you to do? Will you serve Him faithfully according to His Word, or in the way that you think is right?

Pray it:
Father, thank you for giving each of us gifts and tasks to perform in the temple known as your church, your people. Help me to faithfully fulfill what you have called me to do and to do it not in my own strength or schemes but rather according to your ways and Word and for your glory. Amen.
