Numbers 15

Devotional:
“But those who brazenly violate the Lord’s will, whether native-born Israelites or foreigners, have blasphemed the Lord, and they must be cut off from the community. (Numbers 15:30).

The discussion of offerings in this chapter serves as a promise and warning. These are sacrifices that need to be made when the people enter the land (vs. 1-21), reminding them that Israel will still come into the land even after sinning. The instructions about sacrifices to make for unintentional sins (vs. 22-29) shows that God offers forgiveness. There is a warning against “defiant” sins, blatantly breaking God’s laws and commands; the person building a fire on the Sabbath is an example of such a sin and his death a reminder of the penalty for sin. The concluding note on tassels serves as a reminder of God’s commands and holiness. May God’s grace and goodness toward us lead us to remember and follow His laws.
Pray it:
Father, thank you for your faithfulness in the midst of my unfaithfulness to you, for sending Jesus as the sacrifice for my sin and promising me an eternal home that is even better than the land promised to Israel. Help me remember your love and goodness to me. Amen.
