Numbers 16

Devotional:
And Moses said, “This is how you will know that the Lord has sent me to do all these things that I have done—for I have not done them on my own. (Numbers 16:28)

Once again, we see people who are jealous of Moses. A number of Levites were no longer pleased in the role that God had put them — they wanted to be priests. Their discontent led them to make accusations against Moses. God strikes them down by having the earth swallow them up, and the followers of this group are then consumed by fire and destroyed. A plague also arises among the people because of this rebellion. Even though God’s decisions and ways do not always make sense from our perspective, we are called to submit to His ways and to the authority He has in place for our lives. Do you sometimes question His authority or the authority of those He’s put in positions of power? Are you spending your time questioning God’s decisions or seeking to follow Him?
Pray it:
Father, help me to remember that my knowledge is always limited and that your ways are always good. Give me the strength to be okay when I don’t understand or am not in charge, and help me to use every opportunity I have to lead to care and serve for others rather than myself.
