Luke 6

Devotional:
“If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them!  And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! (Luke 6:32-33)

Christ followers are called to be distinct and different from the rest of the world. But living Christ-like lives is not easy. We need the Holy Spirit to empower us to do the things Christ has called us to. Our sinful nature creates the desire in us to seek justice and revenge, but vengeance belongs to God and justice was met on the cross. Jesus invites us to be a people of grace and mercy. He reminds us that we can choose to be more like the God who made us and loves us more than we can imagine. “Be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful” (v. 38).
Pray it:
Father, I confess that all too often I blend in and act like the world around me rather than stand out and follow you in being merciful and kind towards others. Forgive me of my sins and shape my heart so that it becomes more and more like yours. Amen.
